A new development of affordable apartments in Klondyke, Sefton has won a top regeneration award.
Allinsons Court, the latest development from Adactus Housing Group and Bellway Homes, won the award for ‘Excellence in Design and Quality’ at the Strictly Regeneration Awards 2007.
The Allinsons Court development, also known as St Philip’s Place, comprises 52 modern apartments for local residents in Klondyke and was branded a hugely successful and sustainable regeneration scheme by awards judges.
Organised by New Heartlands, the Housing Market Renewal pathfinder initiative on Merseyside, the awards recognise excellence in regeneration projects in Merseyside and the contribution they make to the renaissance of the area.
Adactus Housing Group, part of the Breathe+ Consortium, worked in partnership with Bellway Homes to develop Allinsons Court apartment scheme exclusively for local residents in the Klondyke area.
Built on the site of the famous Secrets cabaret club and cinema, the development is set in its own landscape gardens and comprises 40 modern apartments for rent and a further 12 apartments for sale through Shared Ownership.
Ground floor apartments have been designed to be easily accessible and have a range of adaptations such as low access showers.
During its construction, apprentices from South Sefton were recruited, providing training and employment opportunities for local people. In addition, the use of local suppliers and subcontractors in construction delivered a direct boost to the local economy.
The development, situated on Rimmer Close, has already proved popular among local residents and was described by the award judges as a landmark project in Sefton. The development also marks the beginning of the regeneration of the Hawthorn Road Canal Corridor in Sefton.
The Breathe+ Consortium was also commended in the award category for ‘Good Practice in Neighbourhood Management’ for the environmental improvement work it has carried out in the Klondyke area.
Paul Lees, Group Chief Executive at Adactus Housing Group said: “The Allinsons Court development is an important part of the extensive regeneration work taking place in the area and we are delighted that the design and quality of the development, as well our other environmental improvement work undertaken in the area, have been recognised at the Strictly Regeneration Awards.
“Through the Breathe+ Consortium we are working with the local community to transform the Klondyke neighbourhood, not just by providing new homes but also by providing other services such as tackling anti-social behaviour and making the streets cleaner and safer.”
