A swanky apartment has sold for nearly £12 million - around £3,000 per square foot, it emerged today.

The three-bedroom property in London's Belgravia was snapped up by foreign buyers.

Its price tag makes it one of the most expensive flats per square foot ever sold in its well-heeled corner of the capital, according to estate agents WA Ellis.

The luxurious pad contains a marble master bathroom, top notch interior design and a 52in plasma TV.

Its multi-million pound price tag reflects the high demand for "top end" properties in London, according to WA Ellis partner Daniel Wiggin, who handled the sale.

"Everyone wants to come here and most of it is City-fuelled," Mr Wiggin said.

"Belgravia, Knightsbridge and Chelsea seem to be among the most popular areas that they want to live in and we have an immense lack of stock - a shortage of supply and a vast amount of demand."

The flat was sold by British vendors to anonymous foreign buyers.
