A four-storey block of flats in Newburn, Newcastle is said to be close to collapse after flood defences were breached yesterday morning leading to the evacuation of residents. Figures from the Environment Agency show that around 400 properties have flooded across the country since Sunday with forecasters believing the deluge has been caused by the worst September storm in more than 30 years.
