Established in 1919, Railway Housing Association is one of the oldest registered social landlords in the UK. The Association owns over 1340 units of rented accommodation located within 30 local authority areas in the North East of England and Hereford. This wide geographic spread means that the Association's biggest challenges is ensuring it provides an equitable service to all, and establishing a presence within the local community. In addition the Association manages 73 units of leasehold accommodation for the elderly. The Association's core business is the provision of accommodation and a management and maintenance service to residents. Its primary client group is older people, although there are some general needs properties in management, the majority of which are in the Darlington area managed from the Head Office base. The Association employs 37 staff (including 8 ancillary staff) 22 of which operate from the Darlington Head Office. he Association's governing body is its Board of Trustees which comprises 11 volunteers.
