Boris Johnson has been slammed after agreeing to take part in a celebrity tennis match with Prime Minister David Cameron.

The London mayor will join in with the game that was auctioned by the Conservative Party for £160,000 to the banker wife of a former Russian government minister.

Fiona Twycross, London Assembly Labour Group economy spokesperson, has slammed the famously bungling Johnson for taking time out to play tennis for the entertainment of a rich Russian, without managing to visit a food bank at any point during his mayoralty.

Twycross said: “It beggars belief that Boris can find the time to play tennis with the wife of a former Russian minister, but hasn’t been able to spare the time to visit a food bank in his six years in office.

"He will happily socialise with associates of authoritarian regimes that give his party £160,000, but is unwilling to come and see what life is like for struggling Londoners.

“Last year Boris spent more time in Doha than Dagenham, Cannes than Canning Town and the Gulf than Greenwich. This latest incident is proof of just how out of touch the mayor truly is.”

The tennis match was auctioned off at the Tory Party's summer fundraising ball this week, with all funds going to help perpetuate the Conservatives grip on power.
