the new hygiene facilities at Elmwood College
Scotland’s Rural College’s (SRUC) Elmwood Campus in Fife has commissioned leading disabled toileting solutions provider Total Hygiene to supply an install the hygiene room to accommodate student needs.
Strategically located on the College’s ground floor between the main atrium and the College’s designated autism base, the room includes a mobile hydraulic changing bench, height adjustable washbasin, hoist and Clos-o-Mat ‘wash and dry’ toilet.
The height adjustability of the washbasin means it can be raised or lowered to facilitate use by ambulant or wheelchair users. The Clos-o-Mat, with its in-built douching and drying, means the user can toilet and be clean without the need for manual cleansing with toilet tissue themselves or by a carer.
SRUC Elmwood’s estates manager Gordon Ogilvie explained, “We are having more and more students with profound needs, and wanted a multi-purpose room that would meet most students’ needs.”
Founded over 50 years ago, Total Hygiene is the UK’s largest supplier of disabled toileting solutions, and the only one to offer in house design guidance, supply, install, commissioning and maintenance. Its expertise in the supply and install of hygiene rooms compliments the company’s involvement in the Changing Places campaign for specialist accessible toilets, which it sponsors. Changing Places toilets are similar to hygiene rooms, but open to the public at large, in locations including shopping centres and leisure venues.
