A Conservative MP says he would welcome any move by a London council to “move on” the family of radical cleric Abu Hamza who are currently occupying a council home in one of the capital’s wealthiest neighbourhoods.

Hamza was kicked out of the UK following a failed appeal against extradition at the High Court on Friday.

He is facing a hearing in New York tomorrow to answer charges of terrorist activities in the United States and Yemen.

Greg Hands, a local Tory MP, told the Daily Telegraph: “I would strongly welcome any move by the council to take a look at Hamza’s wife’s status and the large council house in one of London’s wealthiest neighbourhoods to see whether something might be done to move Hamza’s family on.”

It's understood Najat Mostafa, 53, Hamza’s second wife, has lived in the five-bedroom council house - worth some £1m - for more than 15 years bringing up the couple’s eight children.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council told the paper there was little it could do with a long-term tenant such as Mrs Mostafa if she chose to stay in the property.
