The Croydon Enterprise programme has published its 2009 Annual Report -the third year of the programme. The Annual Report is packed with success stories of businesses that have started up and grown.
As with any business, this report contains a set of accounts and other information that describes the achievements of the last year. It uses real-world success stories to illustrate how the programme is helping regenerate Croydon's economy.
The Croydon Enterprise programme is a partnership between Croydon Council, local businesses, other public sector organisations and voluntary groups. Some of these partnership organisations are also ‘delivery partners', providing services for the programme.
These partnerships have served the programme well and will be particularly important as responsibility for the programme transfers to a new Economic Development Company (EDC). This is a new body - building on successful partnerships between the council and the business community. It will drive and deliver a coordinated economic strategy to create the best environment for local, national and international businesses to thrive, creating wealth and opportunities.
This is a transformation in the way Croydon promotes itself and it creates a powerful, single voice to lobby for investment and growth.
As a ‘not for profit limited company, the EDC will have access to a broad range of public and private sector funding. This includes a core grant from the Council, LEGI contracts, European Regional Development Fund income as well as sponsorships and other private sector income.
The EDC will also be responsible for continuing and developing the Croydon Enterprise programme; building greater links between education and business and ensuring more people have the right skills in a changing employment market.
