School children across schools in Slough will lead the way in the global eLearning revolution after Slough Borough Council pushed the button on Studywiz from Etech – a powerful new virtual learning environment or ‘educational hub’ designed to facilitate anytime, anywhere learning using the latest technologies designed to engage young people.

Well established in the eLearning world, Studywiz enables teachers and students to create and store a rich variety of educational content online including assignments, tests, e-bulletins, word files and discussions.

This ‘learning platform’ can not only be accessed in , but from anywhere where there is an Internet connection. Students in Slough over the next two years will be able to sync information to their iPods, upload podcasts, create picture galleries and discuss their projects online with their teachers, mates and parents.

Parents will also be able to get online to view their child’s progress at any time, and they can check assignments, view test scores and even email teachers. The more computer savvy parents can even join in blogging!

Paul Dieppe Headteacher James Elliman School Slough comments: “The schools in Slough chose Etech on account of its strong commitment to implementation, technical support and accredited training.

"At James Elliman we see it as a valuable resource that will enable our children to learn in an exciting and effective way with their parents and teachers particularly outside the formal school hours.

"It will help extend our school into the children’s homes. The children in our school will be able to learn anywhere any time.”

Mike Damiano, Etech Group Vice President, UK, said: “We have worked very closely with the Local Authority and are delighted that schools have chosen to offer Studywiz across Slough.

"Like Etech, Slough Borough Council is focussed on the future of education and we believe they are leading the UK in the way they are using Studywiz technology to transform education, and to prepare teachers and students for future success.”

Etech is the world’s leading learning platform provider and children in 16 countries across Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States are already benefiting from using Studywiz.

Since December 2006, when Etech received government accreditation to supply Studywiz to UK schools, 350,000 British school children have been given access. Etech is expanding its UK offices to support this rapid adoption.

Mike Damiano attributes the success of Studywiz in the UK not only to the quality of the product, but also to the company’s excellent training and professional services. “In education there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution and so at Etech we partner with schools and teachers to develop and support a Studywiz tailored to their individual needs.

"We’re looking forward to developing custom modules and implementation programmes for schools in Slough.”
