Children at summer fair in Northam
A meerkat, children’s entertainer and brass band were among the highlights at a summer community fair in north Devon supported by Westward Housing Group.
The United Community Centre’s (UCC) and Morwenna Community Garden’s joint annual summer fair was held in Northam on Saturday, August 16.
Westward Housing Group’s Involvement team helped the committees of the UCC and the Community Garden organise the day which was attended by the local community. The event was a fun opportunity for local people to get together with their families and help raise funds for the centre and garden.
From 11am-3pm they were treated to a visit from an Exmoor Zoo keeper and animals, including a lively meerkat, children’s entertainer Dave Hendy and facepainting.
The Appledore band also played in the community garden while refreshments including cream teas were served.
The hard work in keeping allotments was recognised and Samantha Garland won a voucher for £25 for her efforts. She said that the allotment was a focus of family life and her children loved it. There was also a miniature garden competition.
The United Community Centre hosts a variety of events for Westward’s customers throughout the year including a lunch club, youth club, and various training courses including how to use computers.
Westward’s Customer Involvement Officer Lesley Vuskans said: “The centre and garden are an important part of the local community and through fundraising events we can ensure that they continue to thrive.”
