A Stafford-based housing association is set to build dozens of new 'affordable' homes after securing £2.24 million from the Homes and Communities Agency.

A number of Stafford and Rural Homes' (SARH) development projects have been given the green light after the regulator agreed to meet up to 20% of the overall costs.

SARH will build 110 homes across Stafford on sites initially put forward for development "thanks to a close working relationship between SARH and Stafford Borough Council".

The projects are expected to deliver a significant jobs boost for the area, with local builders and tradespeople set to carry out much of the work.

Chris Poulton, SARH's director of asset management, explained: "To secure the funding we had to set out a very strong case that the schemes we proposed met real housing needs and represented value for money.

"Planning permission also needed to be in place and we had to demonstrate that we were in a position to move forward with the proposals, something we have been able to do with the support of the Borough Council."
