Progress Housing Group tenants and staff taking part in Rio-style percussion and samba dancing session as part of its Cultural Awareness Week
Staff and tenants from Leyland-based Progress Housing Group enjoyed Rio-style percussion and Samba dancing as part of a cultural awareness-raising event.
Staff joined tenants to raise the roof at The Place community centre in Leyland, as part of a Brazilian style workshop with musicians and dancers from Manchester School of Samba.
The free event offered a fascinating insight into Brazilian culture as part of the organisation’s Equality and Diversity strategy.
The event was part of the housing group’s cultural awareness week for staff and tenants to offer a taste of different cultures, and give a better understanding of the needs of its customers. Other events during the week included a talk on Hinduism culture with local company Educ-Asian, were staff and tenants learnt more about Hinduism food, dance and art, making their own colorful and vibrant pictures to take away with them. As well as an interactive drama based session on cultural awareness with AFTA thought UK.
Kate Henderson, Senior Community Involvement Manager at Progress Housing Group, said: ‘Our Cultural Awareness Week event has been a great way of learning about the different needs and cultural differences of our customers. The events have been really popular with staff and tenants and contribute immensely to our Equality and Diversity strategy.’
