Around 200 residents on a tenant-run estate in Leamore enjoyed a community celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of their towerblocks.

Guests of honour were the three residents who moved in when the homes were officially opened in 1964. And all three have spent a very happy half century on Leamore estate.

Margaret Williams, aged 77, Thelma Pilvean, 76 and Sylvia Josebury, 73, joined in the celebrations in Providence Close on August 9th when residents of Leamore Tenant Management Organisation (TMO) held a celebration fun day.

All three ladies received flowers to mark the landmark and especially enjoyed a display from Walsall Coronets marching band.

The proceedings were kicked off by Councillor Chris Jones and other attractions included rides, bungee jumps and a children’s entertainer.

There were also table top sales, stalls, refreshments and a karaoke and disco.

Chair of Leamore TMO Jean Stewart, who has lived on the estate for 23 years, said the day was “absolutely brilliant”.

“We had a marvellous day which was all possible thanks to the wonderful support from all our volunteers,” said Mrs Stewart.

“The community really came together on the day and that is what we wanted to celebrate.”

Leamore TMO’s entertainment committee and Mrs Stewart started planning the event in March to mark the anniversary of when the homes were officially opened by Walsall Council.

The estate was one of eight acrossWalsallwhich transferred to WATMOS Community Homes from Walsall Council in 2003

Leamore TMO is run by the tenants who live in the 275 flats on the estate and aims to create safe and pleasant neighbourhoods for everyone who lives there.
