New affordable homes for East Wittering residents

Published by Ruth A for The Hyde Group in Housing

Families with a local connection were delighted to move into their beautiful new homes in a recently completed development at Hawthorn Close in East wittering this week.

The scheme, which features seventeen properties, offers a mix of one and two bedroom apartments and two, three and 4 bed houses for social housing rent and shared ownership. These homes are available to families and individuals with a strong local connection to East Wittering.

One of the first residents to move in is Emma Hunt. Ms Hunt has lived in the area for 25 years. She works in nearby Donnington and is delighted that she and children; Jessica, 10 and Joshua six, have secured a lovely new family home which means she can remain close to family and friends.

“Our new home is really lovely,” said Ms Hunt.  “I’ve been on the waiting list for a home for the past 12 years. I have strong family ties to the area and a great job. My tenancy in my old home was coming to an end and it would be very difficult to think of moving away if I’d not had the opportunity to move into Hawthorn Close.”

The Hyde Group worked closely with local partners, including Chichester District Council (CDC) to build the new scheme.

Cllr Carole Purnell, Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, was one of a party of officers and councillors from CDC who recently visited the completed development.

Cllr Purnell said: ““We want to help people to stay in the village where they have their roots, close to their friends and families. This development will provide high quality, affordable housing for local people to rent or buy, so that our rural communities can continue to thrive.”

Austin Wade, Construction Project Manager at Hyde said: “These are attractive, energy efficient homes that have been developed as a result of effective partnership working between the Homes and Communities Agency, Chichester District Council and Hyde. We’re pleased to be able to contribute to this vibrant rural community by providing secure, affordable properties for local residents.”

There are seventeen properties in the development at Hawthorn Close, East Wittering providing much needed homes to families who may otherwise have had to move away from area, family and friends.
