Kier is celebrating its second anniversary with South Essex Homes with impressive results.

Working together with the housing provider to deliver repairs and maintenance services to more than 6,000 properties in South Essex, Kier achieved a perfect score of 100% in its recent performance review, which includes checks such as customer satisfaction and jobs completed on time.

The two local apprentices that Kier took on at the start of the contract in 2012 are both performing well, with one having advanced sufficiently enough to be able to go on site unsupervised to carry out repairs. 

With this success in mind, Kier is now offering students of Prospects College in Southend the opportunity to shadow operatives in their chosen trade for two weeks in order to increase their prospects and help them think about future job opportunities.   

The company also offers work experience placements to local schools, with students able to spend up to three weeks working with the administration team to prepare them for work when they leave full-time education.

In addition, Kier takes part in the South Essex Homes Resident’s Award Conference, as well as supporting its annual community event by attending with an information stand and donating the raffle prizes.

Kier regional director, John Phillips, said: “Our contract with South Essex Homes has reaffirmed to us how important it is to have a good relationship with the communities we serve. Taking part in events like the Residents Awards Conference gives us an opportunity to meet the people we help and get first-hand feedback on the service we provide.

“We are continuing our work experience and apprenticeships programmes because not only are we giving students and young people an insight into the work we do, we are also providing long-term career opportunities for local people.”

South Essex Homes Property Services Group Manager, Paul Longman, said: “Over the last two years, Kier have really proven themselves as a community-friendly company who really care about the people they serve through their regular involvement with local events.
