Three colleagues from North West housing association Regenda Group are heading for Nepal to help the homeless.

Marketing manager Melanie Parr, communications officer Samantha Neville and customer service advisor Jess Woodcock say they are looking forward to the "trip of a lifetime", which has been organised by the UK-based charity Homeless International.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged people in Nepal, many of whom live in slums. We work for a housing association which provides much needed homes for families and communities here in the North West, so the challenges we’ll face will be both relevant and extremely worthwhile,” said Samantha.

Regenda has made a donation towards the cost of the trip from a staff memorial fund, but the girls still have to collect at least £1,500 from sponsorship and fund-raising.

“This is a life-changing challenge, not only for me but for the people of Nepal. I am extremely grateful for the support I’m receiving from my family, friends and colleagues at Regenda. I’m excited but also nervous about this once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Jess.

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. The UN estimates that about 40% of its population live in poverty and around 60% live in slums.

“The trip is certainly going to be challenging both physically and emotionally. We will be visiting one of the most deprived slums in Kathmandu and working with the local community before we camp and trek around the Annapurna region. We can’t thank the Regenda Group and staff enough for the support they have given us in our fund-raising efforts so far,” said Melanie.
