Matt Cooney was today announced 'designate chief executive' of VA Housing, the new group to be formed by the merger of Viridian and asra.

The news comes after the shock resignation of Viridian's chief exeuctive Matthew Fox, who has stepped down from his role with immediate effect.

In a statement Matt Cooney, current group chief executive for asra, said: “I can confirm that Matthew Fox has decided to step down as Viridian’s chief executive. He has been a tremendous support and source of knowledge for me, professionally and personally, over the last year and I wish him every success with his next move. He’s given me a great legacy to continue.”

Hattie Llewelyn-Davies, chairman of Viridian Housing and designate chairman of VA Housing, confirmed today that Matt Cooney has been named the designate chief executive of VA Housing. She also said no decision had been made about potential job losses as a result of the merger.

She said: “No decision has been made around redundancies. Any decision on offices of Viridian or asra will be made when we have full consent for the partnership from the HCA.

“Such partnerships do bring about a period of change, and we are committed to keeping staff and customers informed throughout the process.”

Nick Apetroaie (director of property for Viridian and designate director of asset management for VA Housing) has agreed to become the interim chief executive for Viridian until the legal completion of the partnership.
