Bwermondsey Spa opening
On Friday 27 June 2014, housing association, The Hyde Group, was pleased to welcome local Bermondsey Spa residents, staff from across Hyde and local Southwark (Riverside) councillors, Hamish McCallum and Eliza Mann, to the official opening of the Bermondsey Spa office on Jamaica Road, Bermondsey, London. Hyde made the decision to open an office in the Calico building on Bermondsey Spa to enhance customer service to residents.
Two long-standing Bermondsey Spa residents, Ivy Quirk and Violet Harris, were in attendance to cut the ribbon. All residents who attended the event were entered in a prize draw and the names of those who had previously attended an Estate Inspection were also put into a raffle. Children from the estate were also lucky enough to get prizes for their arts and crafts work.
Rohan Perera, Estate and Resident Services Manager, and Audrey Williamson, Head of Housing for London South, welcomed visitors who enjoyed canapés whilst networking in the sunshine. This was followed by a tour of the communal areas in the new blocks. The Councillors, accompanied by Hyde staff, were welcomed into the home of a resident of Kimmins Court. A successful event culminated in the cutting of a cake by young Hyde residents, Maddison and Monique.
Hyde has been working closely with Southwark Council, as one of the lead partners in the regeneration of the Bermondsey Spa area. This regeneration will result in some 2,000 new homes, with more than 40% affordable housing, open space, new youth and play facilities, bicycle parks, retail stores, health and dental centres and a pharmacy, amongst other things.
