Signing of the ASB charter.
Social landlords, The Hyde Group have signed up to a brand new charter in a bid to tackle antisocial behaviour (ASB) in Croydon. The new charter means landlords will be working more closely in partnership with London Borough of Croydon to respond to ASB in a more timely and effective manner.
“The charter marks a big change in the way we will work with local authorities and importantly it enables us access to their CCTV equipment, as well as noise monitoring equipment,” explained Jane Ball, The Hyde Group’s Regional Director for South Region.
“Our staff will also have access to ASB training, enabling a better working relationship, better understanding and ultimately a better service to those suffering as a result of antisocial behaviour.”
The charter was signed by Jane Ball on behalf of The Hyde Group and fellow social landlords, Viridian Housing, Amicus Horizon and Croydon Churches Housing Association as well as 13 other Housing Associations in Croydon. Head of community safety, Andy Opie signed on behalf of the London Borough of Croydon and was keen to acknowledge the step forward in working more closely with local landlords.
Councillor Mark Watson, cabinet member for safety and justice, said: “No-one should suffer in silence. Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home, and in the streets where they live.
“The council, the police and housing associations have a wide range of powers to deal with every kind of antisocial behaviour.
“The ASB Charter sets the standard for joint working and best practice to enable swift multi-agency action to be taken in a standardised way.
The ASB Charter has been co-written by this group of four social landlords; Viridian Housing, Amicus Horizon and Croydon Churches Housing Association, who are all committed to tackling the serious issue of antisocial behaviour.
Matt Hopkins, ASB Officer for The Hyde Group, was able to make quick and effective use of recording equipment to respond to a recent issue around noise and the matter is now well on the way to being resolved in record time.
