Hong Kong CIH guests visit Wulvern Pickmere ExtraCare
Cheshire based affordable housing provider Wulvern welcomed visitors from Hong Kong recently when they enjoyed a guided tour of award winning Pickmere - a multi-million pound ExtraCare development for over 55’s in Crewe.
The housing colleagues from the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Hong Kong branch were in the UK to attend the CIH annual conference in Manchester and were eager to learn more about the award winning care and support services offered by Wulvern to its older customers at the state of the art ExtraCare development.
The guests toured the building, which comprises of 85 one and two-bedroom apartments available for rent and shared ownership. They wandered through the landscaped gardens, learnt about all the facilities and services provided and met with residents to find out what’s it’s like to live in ExtraCare. The visit ended with a lunch in the bistro café where the delegates and Wulvern colleagues shared best practice from their respective housing sectors.
Chief Executive Sue Lock explains: “We were delighted to host the visit and share our flagship development with the Hong Kong delegates. ExtraCare housing offers a new way of retirement living. It is specifically designed to ensure that residents are supported to continue living independently in their own home for as long as possible. It’s great to be able to share our achievements with our fellow housing colleagues and would welcome anyone else interested in having a look around!”
Pickmere offers a home for life with services which can adapt to meet resident’s changing needs. Residents can enjoy fantastic communal facilities where there is always something going on, hairdressing and beauty salon, health and well-being suite, an IT facility and library.
They can also benefit from individual care if they need it with the added support and reassurance provided by the on-site ExtraCare team and 24 hour emergency response.
Paul Wong, Senior Building Services Engineer at the Hong Kong Housing Authority said: “The CIH conference gave me the chance to improve my housing knowledge. The visit to Pickmere has provided me with the momentum and determination to strive for better housing provision in Hong Kong.”
Pickmere scooped top prize in the Residential category at the North West Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards and has attracted interest from Leader of the Labour Party Ed Miliband and Housing Minister Chris Hopkins.
