The first residents will move into their new homes next month as DCH’s new housing scheme in Bells Hill, Mylor nears completion.

Bells Hill provides 30 new homes including four properties for shared ownership, 12 houses and four bungalows for affordable rent and 10 open market sale homes.

DCH are highlighting the need for rural homes as part of the National Housing Federations’ Rural Housing Week, which runs from runs from 30 June to 6 July, and aims to raise awareness of the value of affordable housing to keep local communities and villages alive. Bells Hill, Mylor is an example of DCH’s commitment to providing rural homes where there is a need.

Richard Connolly Group Development Director DCH said: “We are delighted to be providing new homes for the village of Mylor and look forward to the first residents moving into their homes.  Increasingly across the region it can be a struggle for people and their families to afford a new home so they can put down roots in their local village and town. Our new homes in Mylor are another example of where we are working to address the housing shortage in these areas. DCH is a social business and we reinvest the surpluses we make into our properties and communities across the region.”

Figures released by the National Housing Federation to mark Rural Housing Week show rural areas have become some of the least affordable places to live in the country. On average house prices in rural areas are 11 times the average salary, meaning potential homebuyers working in these areas would need to see wages rise by a staggering 150% to afford a home. The Mylor scheme benefits from £335,000 investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
