TOGETHER Housing Group employee Alison Clews is officially a Housing Hero.

Alison, from Read, and is based with at Twin Valley Homes in Blackburn, won the Inspirational Mentor of the Year award at the awards ceremony in Manchester.

The Group, which manages 37,000 properties across Northern England, boasts a multi-award winning apprenticeship programme and was recognised as one of the top 100 apprentice employers in the country

Alison's job as Skills and Enterprise Co-ordinator sees her work with apprentices across East Lancashire helping them develop skills in their trade, but also develop as individuals.

Many of the young people will have come from difficult and sometimes chaotic backgrounds but have gone on to blossom under Alison's watch.

But it still came as a massive shock when she received her award from Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson.

She said: "I am absolutely overwhelmed to win this award, and am so proud to work for a company who want to invest in the young People within our communities.

“It’s because of their understanding that I am so privileged to be in the role that I am.”

Together Housing Group Chief Executive Steve Close added: "Our apprenticeship programme is the envy of the industry but to get nationally recognised in this way is fantastic for Alison.

"Alison and her colleagues work tirelessly to ensure their apprentices stay on the right track to make the most of their opportunities and most certainly do.

"This is a fantastic accolade and we're all incredibly proud that she's been proud of her and all that she's done."
