South West London housing provider RHP is working with award-winning training provider Building Lives to provide free construction training to its customers. Based at its new Hounslow Heath Academy, RHP is offering a 16-month NVQ Level 2 apprenticeship for up to 50 customers a year for the next four years.
Building Lives works with housing associations in five other London Boroughs to help their customers into stable construction jobs. RHP is offering customers a multi-trade apprenticeship, covering areas like brickwork and carpentry, painting and decorating, plastering, plumbing, roof work and tiling.
Caroline Hand, Head of Community Services with RHP, says: “The course gives learners an industry-recognised qualification with no fees and no debt, and a fantastic 78% of learners are successful in finding employment after they complete the training. We want to support our customers to find the best opportunities for stable jobs and we believe that this programme is a huge step towards success.”
Talha, a previous apprentice, says: “I was unemployed before I joined this scheme and now I’m so happy to be working. I’ve had great teachers, learned new skills and made friends here too. I’d definitely recommend it!”
