Residents at Wedgwood Court enjoying their Big Lunch
Rochford Housing and residents at Wedgwood Court cooked up a feast to remember as they took part in the Big Lunch annual get-together for neighbours.
The retirement scheme, which is home to 44 Rochford residents, invited friends and family to the community gathering and served up their chosen feast of bangers and mash.
Guests on the day were treated to butler service and enjoyed listening and dancing to local artists Midnight Blue, who performed country and western as well as 60s music.
The Big Lunch is the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours, an idea from the Cornwall based Eden Project made possible by The Big Lottery Fund. It provides the perfect recipe to have fun with neighbours, feeding community spirit and helping to build stronger neighbourhoods.
Elena Sneddon, Rochford Housing’s scheme manager at Wedgwood Court, said: “The Big Lunch was a great success and we are considering making this a weekly event.
“Our residents really enjoyed the food and getting together with their neighbours, friends and family. The Big Lunch was just the start, we hope this event will encourage residents to take part in more events like this in the future.”
Joyce Howard, resident at the scheme, added: “The meal I had was excellent and very convenient. I had a lovely day and really enjoyed the company.”
