LA seminar was a huge success
Published by Alison Schur for Shelton Development Services in Housing and also in Local Government
A great mix of local authorities from all parts of the UK converged on Birmingham for our fourth LA seminar. This event focussed on what's happened so far now that many council's have started building again and what standards are being set for continual best practice.
Our keynote speaker, Bill Randall, presented a fascinating look at the issues raised within Brighton & Hove's build programme, among them local consultation, funding, working with planners, the council staff's capacity to sustain the programme, and procurement. He also spoke about possibilities of funding partnerships with adult and social care services and with specialist housing associations.
Other speakers included:
- Phil Shelton - Chief Executive, SDS - View Bio.
- Andrew Markham - (Chair) - New Business Manager, SDS - View Bio.
- David January - FCIH Independent Consultant - View Bio.
- Tony Keaveney - Central Bedfordshire Council - View Bio.
- Steve Cooper - Partner, Ridge & Partners - View Bio.
David January spoke about delivery & funding options for LAs, while Tony Keaveney once again entertained with his lively account of setting out a compelling business case for local authority newbuild.
Steve Cooper from our sponsor, Ridge, covered the practical issues that need to be managed in delivering new build housing for local authorities and Phil Shelton focussed on effective on-site project management.
We've had very positive feedback so far, with everyone saying the event was worthwhile and they would definitely attend another SDS seminar.
We'd like to express our thanks to everyone who attended and to our sponsors for a fantastic day!
