An intrepid trio of cyclists put their pedal power to the test last weekend whilst raising vital funds for St Catherine’s Hospice during a 50 mile charity bike ride.
Lewis Ashworth, Joe Ashworth and Andrew Baldwin, who all work for Progress Housing Group, pedalled in boiling temperatures to take part in the charity bike ride last Sunday and have so far raised a grand total of £2317.00 with more donations still coming in.
Setting themselves a target of five hours to complete the ride, which starts and finishes at Preston Grasshoppers Rugby Club in Preston, the trio all completed the ride in less than four hours 15 minutes.
All three men took part in the challenge to raise money for St Catherine’s Hospice, in memory of Lewis and Joe’s Grandad who spent his last few days at the Hospice in March this year.
St Catherine’s Hospice provides specialist care to patients and their families across Central Lancashire for people living with life-limiting illnesses.
Progress Housing Group also donated £200 to the trio’s fundraising amount as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations this year. The housing group has pledged to support a number of charity fundraising activities organised by staff to recognise the milestone.
Heating Engineer for Progress Housing Group, Lewis Ashworth, said: “We all had a target of five hours to complete the 50 miles and were all astonished with our finishing times, as it was red hot temperatures reaching 24 degrees and quite windy at times. We are amazed at the amount of money we have been able to raise so far and for such a good cause. St Catherine’s is a fantastic charity which helps so many people.”
