THE CONSORTIUM behind the £650 million regeneration of Pendleton has been crowned Public Sector Team of the Year in the Insider North West Property Awards.

Judges selected Pendleton Together as the category winners for the way it is transforming this Salford community.

The consortium delivering the Pendleton Together project includes social landlord Together Housing Group, Salford City Council and building and regeneration specialist Keepmoat.

More than 1,600 new energy efficient homes are being built and 1,250 council-owned homes are being refurbished in Pendleton, alongside a huge investment being made in jobs and training for local people.

The masterplan for Pendleton was 10 years in the making and local people have been closely involved in its creation. Launched in 2013, the building and refurbishment work will be delivered in several phases and will be due for completion in 2024. People are now moving into first of the new homes which have been built for rent and ownership. All of the refurbishment work to homes is expected to be completed by early 2017.

Paul Longshaw, Pendleton Together’s Programme Director for Salford City Council, said: “We are delighted to receive this recognition from our peers in the region’s property profession for the work we are doing to regenerate Pendleton.

“Local people are already benefiting from refurbished homes, improved communities, training and employment opportunities, while new people are moving into the area as the first homes to be built are finished.

"You can only deliver true success by building strong partnerships along the way and we have achieved this at Pendleton Together. Collaboratively Together Housing Group, Salford City Council and Keepmoat are maximising the better life chances that regeneration brings for a community. This is reflected in the award we have just received.”

The awards ceremony, presented by radio and television broadcaster Colin Murray and raising money for The Christie, attract more than 1,000 of the North West’s elite property professionals to the ceremony at Manchester Central Last week (15 May 2014).

This accolade comes soon after Pendleton Together received a highly commended in the “Design Through Innovation” category of the RICS North West Awards.
