Spire Homes, a member of Longhurst Group, are proud to announce that their £1.3 million housing development off Lathkill Street, which will provide 14 new affordable homes, is underway. The development is one of two sites that represent a £5.7 million investment by the housing association to bring more than 50 affordable homes to Market Harborough.

Spire Homes Chairman, John Farrar, marked the start on site by cutting the soil with Cllr Geraldine Robinson, Chairman of Harborough District Council, along with representatives from Spire Homes, Harborough District Council, Longhurst Group, Miller Homes and Abode LLP.

“I am delighted to have been joined by representatives from all our partners who have helped make this development possible”, said John Farrar, Chairman of Spire Homes. “Building our first affordable homes in Market Harborough and Leicestershire is a huge step towards us helping even more people throughout the Midlands find high quality homes they can afford. We are also looking forward to working with people in their community and finding out how we can make a difference for our residents.

“It is also our first time partnering with Harborough District Council and Miller Homes on a development and it has proved to be a very successful partnership which we hope will continue well into the future.”

The housing association, which is predominantly based in East Northamptonshire and Rutland, began developing their first homes in the area in December in a bid to help tackle growing demand for affordable housing.

Cllr Geraldine Robinson, Chairman of Harborough District Council said, “Meeting local need for affordable housing is a top priority for the Council and we are very pleased to be working with Spire Homes at Lathkill Street and Farndon Road. We look forward to continuing our working relationship into the future.”

Their newest project at Lathkill Street will provide a mixture of high quality 2 and 3 bedroom houses with properties available for intermediate rent and shared ownership. The homes for rent will be allocated through Choice Based Lettings so people get the type of home they really need. Alongside this development, a £4.4 million scheme off Farndon Road has already begun and will provide a further 45 affordable homes by 2016.

Anyone interested in shared ownership at Lathkill Street or Farndon Road can contact Millers Estate Agents. Shares at Farndon Road are available from 30%-75% based on an affordability assessment:

  • One Bedroom Apartments (Maisonettes) - £30,000 at 30% based on a 100% value of £100,000
