Eden Housing Association (Eden HA) has been shortlisted from 100’s of entries in the 2014 Housing Heroes Awards. These awards showcase the people and teams doing exceptional work in the social/affordable housing sector.
Eden HA is now one of six finalists in the running for the HR Team of the Year. Their HR team is small – three part time staff looking after the organisations needs across 70+ employees.
The event is organised by Inside Housing magazine and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH)and recognises those in the front line and behind the scenes in social housing. The winners will be announced on 23rd June in the Exchange Hall, Manchester Central. Last year over 700 people attended making it one of the largest award ceremonies in the social housing calendar.
With a stock of around 1800 properties, Eden HA is one of the smallest social housing providers shortlisted in the whole of the awards roll call. Those shortlisted in the HR Team of the Year category include much larger organisations with housing stock of around 30,000 properties . It’s not just the number of properties that makes the Eden HA achievement so remarkable, the team of three staff is a full time equivalent of less than two people, with some of the period covering maternity leave.
John Clasper, Managing Director of Eden HA said “We are delighted that the work in our backroom has been recognised within our industry. To be shortlisted alongside well respected organisations is an achievement in itself. The Association’s HR team is small and they are only all together one day a week. What they achieve consistently goes above and beyond the requirements of their role profiles. They have, through excellent organisation, rapport and trust, massively influenced the Associations cultural change programme.
In the last 18 months the team has worked hard to update our employee handbook, policies and procedures and organised our most successful bi-annual staff conference. They have also identified different ways for our staff to learn and develop, and introduced new appraisal systems. Two years ago we introduced apprenticeships which have proved very successful and something the team is looking to extend. They have already achieved a great deal in the last two years and clearly punch above their weight - we wish them luck at the finals in June.”
The Award ceremony will see fourteen awards presented – six are team awards, there are eight individual awards and Eden Housing Association is one of only three finalists with less than 2000 homes to manage.
Chartered Institute of Housing Chief Executive Grainia Long said: “Congratulations to all the shortlisted finalists. The housing world is full of heroes, from frontline and back office housing professionals to board members and tenants, who are making a big difference in their neighbourhoods and communities. These awards aim to make sure they get the recognition they deserve for their energy, passion and dedication
Martin Hilditch, Acting Editor of Inside Housing, said: “All the finalists have done incredibly well in getting this far because the standard of entries this year was stronger than ever. Congratulations to the Eden Housing Association team for being shortlisted.”
The awards are sponsored by EMH Group, Manchester Strategic Housing Partnership, Places for People, the Regenda Group, Wheatley Group and Your Housing Group
