50% of tenants believe they won’t ever own a home
New social housing residents in Walsall will learn about their rights and responsibilities as tenants as part of a new initiative to help them sustain their tenancies.
Caldmoreaccord, which is part of the Accord Group and manages 7,200 affordable homes, will launch its Your Home, Your Future pre-tenancy programme on Wednesday (14 May).
Aimed at residents who have never rented a home before, the programme includes interactive workshops with hands-on activities focused on budgeting, debt and saving money. Residents will also learn about their day-to-day responsibilities as tenants, such as paying their rent on time and maintaining their home and garden.
Caldmoreaccord hope that the programme will help to support first-time residents to manage their tenancies successfully and avoid getting behind with rent and other bills.
Caldmoreaccord's Jay Gill said: "Moving into your own home for the first time and managing all the responsibilities and bills that come with it can be very daunting. The aim of the Your Home, Your Future programme is to help tenants succeed in their tenancies and provide them with all the support they need to move into their new home. We’ll also be explaining the other services that we offer to help them to do this, including our tenancy support and jobs and skills services.”
Workshops will take place monthly for three hours.
