The construction sector in the North East has been delivered a further boost after work got underway on The Riverside Group’s £1.6 million housing scheme in Chollerford. Riverside, one of the country’s largest social housing providers has started building new affordable homes for local people on land adjacent to The George Hotel, Chollerford, Northumberland.
The development, which will provide fourteen two and three bedroom houses and bungalows for affordable rent for local people, has been developed in partnership with Northumberland County Council, with £350,000 of funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
Andrew Williamson, Riverside’s Development Manager said “Demand for affordable housing in rural Northumberland is high and so we are are delighted to be able to provide these much needed homes and help to sustain the village well into the future”.
The project is expected to be completed by Christmas 2014 and is being built by Keepmoat.
Mark Kearney, Keepmoat’s Operations Director said "It is fantastic to be working with Riverside on this high quality development at Chollerford. We are delighted to know that through our partnership we will help to bring much needed affordable homes to the area."
