A City West Housing Trust employee has returned from the trip of a lifetime, after heading to Ghana to help with the building work at a school that will help provide vital access to education for local children.
Rebecca Bennett, from Swinton, spent two weeks working in the village of Yensiso with volunteer travel organisation Projects Aboard, and dedicated time to building four new classrooms to help move the school extension forward.
The 24-year-old who works as an Assets and Contracts Officer secured part of her funding for the trip through the housing association.
Rebecca said: "I'm so grateful to City West for supporting me with this volunteering opportunity, and I feel honoured to have contributed to the development of the new school classrooms which will make such a difference to the lives of young people living in the local community.
"This experience has been amazing, and also very humbling to see how buildings are constructed in Ghana in comparison to how we would do things in the UK - we are very privileged to have access to such advanced resources. The building methods in Ghana were very labour intensive but the experience was really rewarding and I would love to volunteer again in the future."
