Volunteer Cissy recieves her birthday flowers
A Sanctuary Housing volunteer from Hackney celebrated her 99th birthday in style with community centre friends and a much loved traditional fish ‘n’ chips lunch.
Cissy Brine who turned 99 on 20 April has run the Morningside Community Centre over 50s club since October 2012. It was at the club that Cissy enjoyed a sea-side style party with a hearty fish ‘n’ chips lunch, bingo, music and lots of laughter.
A long term volunteer of the over 50s club, which has been running for over 20 years, Cissy is a popular member of the community and also a ‘special award’ winner at the recent Sanctuary in Hackney Community Awards.
All activities at the club are organised by the 99 year old, including bingo, seasonal parties, trips away and plenty of tea and biscuits.
Jo Revett, Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, said: “I was very honoured that I was invited to Cissy’s party. The club is a close knit community and Cissy is a very popular member.
“Her hard work has been noticed by residents and staff at Sanctuary Housing and we all wish Cissy a very happy 99th birthday.”
Cissy added: “I was really pleased to celebrate my 99th birthday at the club. It’s been running for a long time and I always have such a great time each week.
“As well as spending my birthday with friends at the club, I also celebrated at a family party too.”
Morningside over 50s club always welcomes new members to its club. If you are interested in this club, or in using Sanctuary Housing’s Morningside Community Centre for another activity, please contact Wendy Thomas on 020 8525 6962 or email email@example.com.
