CGA Colleagues present £5800 to Jill Kirkham from Derian House CGA Colleagues present £5800 to Jill Kirkham from Derian House

Each year Community Gateway Association (CGA) colleagues choose a local charity to support at the organisations annual staff day.

This year the fundraising efforts were focussed on local children’s hospice Derian House.

Derian House is renowned throughout the North West and across the country, as being at the forefront of children’s palliative and respite care.

Families who have a child with a life shortening condition can choose from a range of care and support services to meet their individual needs.

In April 2013 following a video presentation by the hospice’s fundraising team (which left a number of people reaching for the box of tissues.) CGA’s charity team started a full on fundraising campaign.

Across the year, colleagues completed sponsored marathons (even competing in the Athens Marathon) and sponsored cycles; they even held fun fair events in the organisations Board room and also competed in a Dragon Boat race on Preston Dock.

The fundraising effort culminated in an end of year charity party at Bar Revolution in Preston, which raised over £1900 on the night.

Over the year colleagues raised the largest ever fundraising total in CGA’s history raising an amazing £5800 which was over £3000 more than for any other charity supported previously.

This took CGA’s overall total for fundraising to over £15,000 since 2005.

During the year Derian’s fundraising team approached the charity team on behalf of teenagers at the hospice, to ask if we could raise money for a special project  (The CGA Legacy Project) will give them an opportunity to take part in a Radio Academy delivered by local radio station ROCK FM.

The “CGA Legacy Project” will see young people from the hospice spend a year developing the “Derian House Radio Show” that will be presented by them to be broadcast via the stations I.RockFM online radio station. http://i.rockfm.co.uk/

Jill Kirkham, Derian House Fundraising co-ordinator who picked up the huge charity cheque from CGA’s headquarters said, “On behalf of parents and young people at Derian House, I would like to say a huge thank you to CGA for all your hard work in raising such a fantastic amount for us. The “CGA Legacy Project” will be an amazing project that will inspire and support the work we do at the hospice.

Michaela Andrews, CGA Governance Manager and member of CGA’s Charity Team commenting, “To the colleagues that bought an amazing amount of raffle tickets, to those who donated time and passion.  For the ones who pounded and cycled the roads and to the mad ones who took to the water as part of the CGA Dragon Boat Team.

I would like to say a huge thank you for your support in raising our best ever fundraising total.

We also could not have raised this amount without the support of our partners who have donated some amazing prizes, especially for our end of year raffle.

We are proud to be able to leave a lasting legacy from our fundraising activities this year and we look forward to listening to the “Derian House Radio Show” very soon”
