Agencies join forces for first virtual surgery

Housing providers and emergency services in Salford have teamed up to host the first ever multi-agency social media surgery.
Salix Homes and Pendleton Together have joined forces with Greater Manchester Police, Salford City Council and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service for a live question and answer session via Facebook and Twitter.
Members of the public will be invited to put their questions to or raise any concerns with any of the agencies who will be on hand to provide an immediate response.
It is the first time Salford’s service providers have come together to host a virtual surgery for residents and it’s hoped the initiative will help boost community engagement and encourage people to raise any issues they have.
Members of the public will be able to ask questions on anything from their tenancy to community concerns and reports of anti-social behaviour.
Helen Byrne, early intervention and prevention officer at Salix Homes, said: “We are very excited to be taking part in Salford’s first multi agency virtual surgery, which will give residents the chance to take part in online discussions with service providers and raise any community concerns they may have.
“Social media is now a very powerful communication tool and we hope that by reaching out to our customers through our Facebook and Twitter pages we’ll be able to engage with a much wider audience and hopefully it’ll encourage people to come forward who have perhaps been reluctant to speak to us about their concerns through the more traditional channels of communication.”
The virtual surgery takes place on Wednesday, April 30 from 6pm-8pm, and will be hosted on Greater Manchester Police’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Just search GMP Salford East and GMP Ordsall on Facebook and @GMPsalfordeast and @GMPsalford cen and @GMP_Ordsall on Twitter.
