Preston charity, CancerHelp, was thrilled after it received a generous donation from Progress Housing Group’s charity committee.

The Group’s Charity Committee, which is run by staff, donated £300 to help to improve the cancer charities facilities and providing the best possible service to support local people affected by Cancer. The majority of the money will go towards the refurbishment of its therapy rooms, which are currently outdated and in need of new equipment such as therapy couches.

Beverley Taylor, Fundraising and Finance Director for Cancer Help, said: “We are delighted to have received this very generous and helpful donation, as we are only a small local charity we rely heavily on voluntary contributions. This money means that we will now be able to refurbish our therapy rooms, making them bigger and more welcoming for the people who use our service.’

CancerHelp is a small charity based in Preston and has been running for over 25 years. It provides support to over 6,000 local people affected by Cancer each year, helping to improve their quality of life by providing emotional, physical and social support. The charity has two day centres in Ribbleton and Garstang and runs four charity shops as well annual fundraising events.

Progress Housing Group’s charity budget donates £2,500 per year to local charities that provide services and improve communities in the areas that is works.

The Charity Committee was set up in 1994 when Progress Housing Group was established and has supported many local community groups, such as St Catherine’s Hospice and a swimming club for children with disabilities. The committee also supports the Group’s staff to raise funds for good causes.
