THE chief executive of one of the UK’s leading affordable housing providers has won a top industry award.
Home Group chief executive Mark Henderson has been named Leader of the Year at the Chartered Institute of Housing north east awards.
The Gosforth based affordable housing chief was honoured at a ceremony held at Newcastle Civic Centre attended by CIH members from throughout the region.
Home Group customer service partner Peter Robinson was also recognised at the ceremony as runner up in the Student of the Year category. Peter is based at Home Group’s Durham office and works closely with around 300 customers in the Spennymoor area.
The judges recognised Mr Henderson for driving forward Home Group’s housing with care strategy. The strategy has commercially strengthened the not for profit organisation during challenging economic circumstances while allowing it to continue its social mission as a provider of affordable housing and care and support services.
Mr Henderson said: “I’m honoured and humbled to have received this award. It may be a cliché but it’s true to say that I’m fortunate to work with some very talented people and I accepted the award on their behalf.
“We have very committed teams working throughout the north east and the wider UK which strive each day to improve the lives of our customers and clients and I’m privileged to lead them.
“This award is recognition of everyone’s efforts at Home Group. As happy as I was to accept the award on behalf of everyone at Home Group I was delighted that Peter Robinson was recognised individually for the hard work he does helping our customers in County Durham.”
The award builds upon other accolades for Home Group which last year was named the Number 1 UK housing provider by influential sector magazine 24 Housing.
The company, which is one of the UK’s largest developers of affordable housing, has recently secured £44m investment from The Housing Finance Corporation and the European Investment Bank to improve existing homes and build 350 new properties.
Home Group was also recognised by Investors in People with a Gold award and its Longbenton based customer service centre was named Contact Centre of the Year.
