Rt. Hon. Gregory Barker showcases WCH cladding work
The Rt. Hon. Gregory Barker, Minister of State at the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) has hailed Worcester Community Housings external wall insulation scheme as the ‘best in the country.’
He visited the city to see for himself the work WCH and partner contractor Westdale have been doing to insulate and improve the thermal efficiency of hard to heat, solid wall homes.
The work has seen over 750 homes, both privately owned and social rented, overclad with external wall insulation, which wraps the walls of the property with a thick layer of insulation. This is then protected by a layer of render which can then be finished in a variety of ways to enhance the finished product.
Mike Rothwell, Head of Property Investment at WCH said: “We are delighted to welcome energy minister Greg Barker MP and to showcase our current project, one of the first and largest Energy Company Obligation (ECO) funded projects in the country. Both we and our partners Westdale, hope that the visit will demonstrate to the Minster what can be achieved through a combination of Government policy and partnership working.
“Our involvement as a well respected local landlord helped encourage private home owners to take advantage of the cladding alongside our tenants, resulting in more choice and a greater overall impact. Local home owners have really embraced the opportunities that the project has delivered and as a result all are already enjoying warmer homes and lower fuel bills.”
“There are still lots more properties that would benefit from similar work, so if the Minister liked what he saw, we would welcome the chance to become part of a national demonstration project showcasing the work that the government’s developing Green Deal initiative can deliver.”
