Eden Housing Association Managing Director joined 170 people for a rough night out in the Lake District. They all camped out on Saturday 15th February as part of Cumbria Community Foundation’s ‘Big Sleep’ to raise funds of the Winter Warm Fund. The night under the stars took place in a very wet field by the Low Wood Hotel, Ambleside in near freezing conditions. Thankfully the deluges of rain from the previous two weeks held off and there were only light showers during the night.
The charity campers watched an outdoor movie before settling down for the night and they had hot drinks with an early breakfast before setting off home.
The final figure has not yet been collated but already over £74,000 has been raised for the foundation. John Clasper, MD At Eden Housing Association has collected over £1000 with more pledges still to come, he said ‘I guess spending one night in the cold is nothing compared to the 300 elderly people in Cumbria who die because of the effects of cold weather each winter. My thanks go to those who have sponsored me for this great cause.’
