A resident getting stuck into their nestbox
Rochford Housing Association and Sanctuary Maintenance are providing homes for feathered friends by helping residents build their own nest boxes during National Nest Box Week.
Thanks to Sanctuary Maintenance, Millview Court in Rochford took part in a nest building workshop where residents built their own nest boxes with the help of skilled maintenance staff.
Kindly donated by the Managed Services Team of Travis Perkins Group, there was enough wood for the residents to get stuck into building eight nest boxes, which will be put up in the communal gardens of the sheltered scheme.
National Nest Box Week, run by UK’s leading bird research organisation BTO and in partnership with Jacobi Jayne, aims to encourage local communities to contribute to bird conservation by putting up nest boxes for breeding birds.
Mary Lyons, Millview Court’s scheme manager, said: “The residents really enjoyed this workshop, a few of our residents are keen bird and wildlife watchers.
“This was a great way for them to get involved in an exciting activity, where they can enjoy the benefits in the coming months.”
Allan Davies, electrician and qualifying supervisor at Sanctuary Maintenance, said: “The workshop was a great chance for us to work directly with Rochford Housing residents. We always enjoy getting involved in these types of events and the residents were very engaging.”
James Clack, Travis Perkins Managed Services sales director, added: “TP Managed Services is delighted to be supporting these initiatives as supply chain partner to Sanctuary Maintenance.
“The projects represent a ‘legacy’ from the partnership which allows TP to deliver real benefits to the community as well as the supply of repair and maintenance materials.”
Millview Court is managed by Rochford Housing Association, part of Sanctuary Group, and provides sheltered accommodation for over 40 residents aged 55 and above.
