Wythenshawe Community Housing Group gave a warm welcome to seven Housing Apprentices who recently joined them following a pre-employment course held in partnership with The Manchester College.

This is the 2nd year that the Group have run this scheme.  This year’s apprentices - Faerie August, Christopher Benjamin, Shaki Borki, Samantha Fowler, Hannah Jordan, Ashley Law and Stuart Peacock - will be with us for 12 months on four- month rotations in a variety of departments as they study for their Level 2 Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) certificate in Housing Practice.

Each has a dedicated mentor, and all have reported that they are already learning more than they had ever expected!

Nigel Wilson, Group Chief Executive of WCHG, said: “We always take on apprentices for the traditional trades, but we are also in an excellent position to help local people find out that there is so much more to Housing than bricks and mortar.  If we can do our bit to help local people gain work experience, qualifications and a step on the ladder, we are very happy to help.”

Samantha Fowler, one of the latest apprentice recruits, is currently working with the Welfare Reform Project Team and she said: “Since starting on the Welfare Reform Team as part of my apprenticeship, I have been made to feel like part of the family. It has been a real eye opener working with this team, as I get to see how tenants are coping with the changes that have been put in place. The team are very helpful and are always involving me in new challenges. I really enjoy being an apprentice for Wythenshawe Community Housing Group.  It has been an amazing experience so far.”
