A warm welcome awaits you at the Cherry Tree Community Shop following a successful funding bid, to the Big Lottery Fund, for secondary glazing and a new heating system.

Sue Murphy, Chair of the Cherry Tree TRA said “The improvements have meant that the community shop is now less of an endurance test and more a place to get together, get online and get advice. It’s a great resource for local residents and I encourage everyone to come along.”

Councillor Hazel Lees who officially opened the improved community shop, added “The residents have worked hard to keep their groups going despite all the drawbacks. Thanks to the Big Lottery and the generosity of everyone involved, the Community Centre is now a cheerful all year round venue with good facilities”.

A regular computer club is held at the community shop along with access to the Credit Union. The Credit Union is owned by its members and offers savings and affordable loans, especially when compared to doorstep lenders.

The Partners of Cherry Tree and Cherry Tree Tenants’ and Residents’ Association (TRA) would like to thank: Stockport Homes for their support with the funding bid and for match funding the project; Dodd Group for installing the heating system; and A & D Joinery for installing the secondary glazing free of charge.

If you would like help to access funding for a community group or project, please contact Mark Rodgers, Stockport Homes’ Funding Officer on 0161 474 3463.
