This Valentine’s Day owners of empty homes in Wales are being reminded that their old, abandoned properties need love too.
In an effort to raise awareness of the issues that vacant properties create within communities, the organisation Empty Homes Wales has developed #LoveEmptyHomes – a campaign to encourage owners of empties to seek help to bring them back into use.
Working with local authorities in Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent and Cardiff, owners of more than 300 empty homes have been sent a Valentine’s card asking them to show their house some love.
Michala Rudman, Empty Homes Wales project officer, said: “There are over 25,000 empty homes in Wales. Clearly, bringing these properties back into use would help meet the high demand for homes.
“Homes become empty for a number of reasons, and often their owners simply don’t know where to turn for help to get them back into use.
“With #LoveEmptyHomes, what we’re saying to owners is ‘don’t be afraid to show your empty home some love’. We can help them make their home feel loved again – either with practical or financial support.
“The first step is to just get in touch. We are here to help.”
