A £5 million affordable housing project in Fife has been delivered almost two months ahead of schedule.

Kingdom Housing Association’s 44-home development is located near the coast in the Anstruther area, a region with an acute shortage of affordable housing.

Twenty-five of the new homes are for social rent and 20% have been designed to be suitable for older people or people needing ground floor and fully-accessible amenity housing. Eight homes have been provided for shared equity ownership and 11 mid-market rent properties are also available.

Kingdom received just over £2m from the Scottish government and Fife Council to support the scheme, which is comprised of a mixture of two and three-bedroom homes.

The two and three-bedroom homes have been designed to reflect many of the local design characteristics associated East Neuk buildings. They have also been built to very high standards to reflect modern life, with spacious rooms, quality finishes and high energy efficiency standards.

Bill Banks from Kingdom said: “It is difficult to get land in East Fife to develop affordable housing and the project in Cellardyke will make a significant contribution to meeting the housing needs in the area.

“The need for affordable housing in this area continues to grow and it is difficult for families and people looking for their first home to find suitable properties and this project provides housing to meet a range of affordable tenures giving choice to people who are trying to access affordable housing.”

The development is part of a larger site being developed by Muir Homes, where a total of 331 new homes will be provided.

Mr Banks added: “The standard of the completed houses is excellent and Muir Homes have delivered the project within budget and ahead of programme.”

David Scobbie, director with Muir Homes, said: “Muir Homes have provided affordable housing in partnership with Housing Associations for a number of years. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to be involved with Kingdom Housing Association on this project. The houses reflect our ambition to continually deliver quality housing to a high standard within our client’s budgetary requirements and expectations.”
