A new development in Droylsden went back to tradition this week (21 January) with a ‘topping-out’ ceremony to celebrate its completion.
The new build at Lancaster Road in Droylsden, by New Charter Homes, had its final roof slate put in place by Tameside Council’s leader Cllr Kieran Quinn under the watchful eye of the men who built it from the ground up.
Workers and site managers from local contractor Rowlinson Construction joined the event with architects and other members of the design team to watch Cllr Quinn climb to the top of one of the 14 new homes in the Sunnyside area.
Everyone who played a hand in building the homes then enjoyed a hearty chip butty lunch.
The £1.3m development has been built in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency to provide accommodation at affordable rent prices.
All of the houses are sustainable, family homes in a very popular area.
New Charter is building hundreds of homes across Tameside over the next few years with more than 150 of them already complete.
Sean Stafford, New Charter’s director of investment said: “We’re really pleased to be able to celebrate this significant stage of this exciting development with such a great team.
“It’s not often that we get to celebrate with the work men and women who helped build it so it’s really special for us all to get together. These are fantastic news homes for our tenants and they will be of real benefit to the community. We are grateful to Councillor Quinn for finding the time to get involved.”
