Tenants looking to downsize to a smaller home following the introduction of last year’s welfare reforms have received a welcome boost thanks to a website which is helping people to swap their homes.
Housing providers from across the West Midlands have joined forces through the West Midlands Making Best Use of Stock Partnership (WMBUS) to develop the Let’s Swap scheme which is connecting tenants who want and need to move.
More than 4,000 have registered for the free site since its launch last summer – and now housing bosses in Wolverhampton are encouraging local tenants who want to downsize or move to a bigger home to register to see whether a home swap would be ideal for them.
Mark Henderson, Director of Housing at Wolverhampton Homes said:
“The Let’s Swap website is a great way for tenants to connect with other people in a similar situation who might want to move home.”
“Since the welfare reforms kicked in, we know there are people who want to downsize, so this could be an ideal way of being able to find a home which is a more suitable size.”
Residents in the West Midlands who would like to register with Let’s Swap can visit www.lets-swap.org.
