Hanover Housing Association has appointed Clare Tickell DBE as its new chief executive.
Dame Tickell succeeds Bruce Moore, who left the 19,000-home provider last September. Rona Nicholson, Hanover's chief operations officer, has been acting CEO since Mr Moore's departure.
Hanover celebrated its 50th anniversary last year and marked the event with a public debate on the future of housing, care and wider support for the ageing population.
The social landlord has invited nine think tanks from across the political spectrum to contribute to its 'Hanover@50 Debate'.
Dame Tickell said: "I am delighted to be joining Hanover, at a time when its area of work - providing quality housing for older people - has never been more important.
"There is a clear connection between quality of housing and quality of life; and current demographics mean that this will become even more relevant to us all, with more of us living longer and expecting more. Hanover has identified a number of themes that are central to this through the ‘Hanover@50’ debate which it initiated with leading think tanks; I am very keen to build on that work, and am looking forward to developing these ideas further."
