The Mayor and Mayoress celebrate the opening of the new homes with tenants.
This Christmas was extra special for 39 families in Tameside as they celebrated the festive season in new homes.
Residents at Stephens Close in Stalybridge were joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of Tameside, Councillor Joe Kitchen and his wife Shirley, to mark the official opening of their new homes on Monday 23 December.
It was also double celebration with the completion of the latest new-build development for housing association New Charter Homes.
Father Christmas popped by to surprise the children and there were carols, mince pies and hot chocolate.
Stephens Close provides a mix of 39 houses and apartments with between two and three bedrooms. Construction was carried out by affordable housing contractor Wates Living Space.
Jeanette Sutcliffe has just moved into one of the three-bed houses with her two daughters and her son.
For Jeanette, her new home has already helped to improve her family’s life.
“Our new home is absolutely fantastic. It’s like the house was built for us and our needs. My children have a life because they can play out and make friends. It’s a lot safer and it’s 100 per cent better for us.”
The £3.5m development has been built in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency to provide accommodation at affordable rent prices.
All of the homes are sustainable and close to Stamford Park so families can enjoy large open spaces.
New Charter is building hundreds of homes across Tameside over the next few years, with more than 150 of them already complete.
Sean Stafford, New Charter’s director of investment said: “This official opening marks is another milestone for our new-build programme as we see tenants move in to yet more homes that we have promised to build.
“It’s been great to celebrate the occasion with our new tenants, especially at this magical time of year and I’d like to thank everyone and the Mayor and Mayoress for coming along to the opening.”
