Santa Claus comes to town, thanks to Housing Association

Kids in Richmond Borough, from families in financial need, will still get presents from Santa, thanks to a local Housing Association.

Twickenham-based Thames Valley Housing (TVH) collected just over three hundred toys when two staff members organised a Christmas collection from their colleagues.

Charlotte Ward, a Housing Officer at TVH, and one of the organisers, said, “This is the third year we’ve asked staff donate toys and their generosity always amazes me.  They’ve donated for young people of all different ages and interests.  Some of the toys are brand new and the second-hand ones are in great condition”

The toys were taken to The Salvation Army Centre in Twickenham.  Ken Clark, Divisional Envoy, who runs the Centre with his wife, Wendy, said, “We are really grateful to all the staff at Thames Valley Housing for these donations.  These toys will mean so much to the young people who’ll receive them.  In some cases, it may be the only present they get.”

Salvation Army volunteers will take the toys to children’s organisations such as the NSPCC and Richmond Borough Council’s family support unit.  Some of the toys will go directly to families who have been referred to The Salvation Army.

Charlotte said, “At a time like Christmas, when everyone else is having fun and getting presents, families, especially children, experiencing poverty can feel very left out.  These donations will go along way to making sure they can enjoy Christmas just a bit more.’’
