London homelessness charities to merge in new year
London-based homelessness charities St Mungo's and Broadway are set to merge from April next year.
The new charity will be known, initially, as St Mungo’s Broadway. Once the legal form of the merger has been finalised, the Chair of St Mungo’s Broadway will be Paul Doe, the current Chair of St Mungo’s, with Sir Leigh Lewis, the current Chair of Broadway, becoming the Vice-Chair.
Paul Doe said: “The merger of St Mungo’s and Broadway harnesses the strengths of two expert charities to create a bold new organisation committed to improving the lives of homeless and excluded people.”
Sir Leigh Lewis said: “There is a real synergy between Broadway and St Mungo’s that will make us stronger together. We can combine, complement and connect up services much more, while continuing to put our clients at the heart of what we do.”
Howard Sinclair, Broadway’s current Chief Executive, will become Chief Executive Designate of St Mungo’s Broadway with immediate effect, taking on the CEO role formally in April, at which point St Mungo’s Chief Executive, Charles Fraser CBE, will step down after almost 20 years leading the organisation.
Paul Doe added: “Announcing our intention to merge is the first step. Both Boards will now work on the practicalities of merging, with the core aim of building on both charities’ existing services to fulfil our joint vision of St Mungo’s Broadway.”
